The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) carried out inspections to check whether entities running catering businesses (restaurants, wine bars, patisseries, pubs, etc.) fulfil the obligation to make information on allergens in offered food available for the consumers. During July and August, CAFIA inspectors carried out 114 inspections and in 37 % of inspected sites, the obligations were breached.

Not stating particular information on various kinds of cereals or dry nuts that were used for preparation of meals was the most frequent offence in inspected sites. In other sites, information on allergens at site was not available and personnel did not provide the information.

Cases of undeclared allergen occurrence in a meal can cause serious health complications to a consumer with an allergy.
